The first day of our Ninth International Conference, which is currently taking place at Goldsmiths, University of London, featured a fascinating walking tour of Deptford (including a visit to Marlowe’s approximate resting place) led by Matt Haynes, three terrific panels, a vibrant roundtable of Marlowe theatre directors, a moving and timely opening keynote by Ruben Espinosa, and a lovely opening reception in the Council Chamber of Deptford Town Hall. This is the first time that the organization has gathered in Deptford. To mark the occasion, MSA President Lucy Munro read from the inquest document that records many of the details we now associate with the circumstances surrounding Marlowe’s untimely death.
